The Transpersonal Realm: The Divine Beyond the Ego

Transpersonal psychology focuses on the dimensions of consciousness that go beyond the individual’s ego, drawing attention to the interconnectedness of all life and the universal aspects of human experience. The transpersonal realm involves engaging with spiritual energies, archetypes, and the divine presence that transcends the limited sense of “self” and invites the soul into deeper union with the Divine. In the SoulCollage® process, the three transpersonal cards invite us into communion with these higher dimensions, calling us to remember our divine nature and purpose.

The Source, SoulEssence, and The Witness are not simply psychological constructs—they are sacred images that allow us to encounter the divine presence within and beyond us. Together, they can guide us toward the realization that our personal journey is inextricably woven into the fabric of the Cosmos, that our true essence exists in constant relationship with Source, and that we are ultimately called to witness life with the eyes of the Divine.

Source: The Divine Well of Creation

The first Transpersonal card, Source, represents the primordial wellspring from which all life flows. It is the Divine origin, the Creator, the fountain of all spiritual energy, and the eternal essence from which our souls emanate. With the Source card we are invited to reconnect with the deep well of divine presence, from which we are continuously nourished and from which we draw our spiritual vitality.

For many, Source is analogous to the concept of God as Creator in the Abrahamic traditions, the ground of all being, and the ineffable force that breathes life into creation. In Christian thought, it is reminiscent of the opening verse in the Gospel of John: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The Source is the divine spark, the Logos, that precedes all things and is within all things. Engaging with the Source card invites us to remember that we are made in the image of this Divine origin, and it beckons us to return to that origin in order to rediscover the purity and purpose of our existence.

SoulEssence: The Divine Spark Within

The second Transpersonal card, SoulEssence, represents the unique, sacred core of who we are as divine beings. It is the reflection of our highest self, the eternal aspect of our being that exists beyond time, form, and circumstance. SoulEssence transcends the personality or ego, calling us to remember the divine spark that resides within each of us—a reflection of the Source that incarnates uniquely in our lives.

SoulEssence can be likened to the concept of the Imago Dei, the image of God within humanity. The SoulEssence card invites us to acknowledge that our deepest identity is not bound by the limitations of the physical world but rooted in the divine. SoulEssence is a reminder that we are divine beings, each created with a unique expression of the sacred, imbued with the potential for creativity, love, and transformation.

In the SoulCollage® process, engaging with the SoulEssence card opens the door to understanding our divine purpose and calling. Through it, we connect with that eternal part of ourselves that is untouched by the trials and tribulations of everyday life, helping us to align our actions with our highest spiritual aspirations.

Witness: The Sacred Observer

The third Transpersonal card, The Witness, represents the divine observer within us—our higher self that observes the unfolding of our life from a place of detached wisdom, compassion, and clarity. The Witness card invites us to step back from the chaos of the world and the turbulence of our emotions, offering us a perspective that transcends the ego and invites us to see with the eyes of The Great Creator.

The Witness echoes the idea of our Higher Power as the Eternal Witness—the divine presence that sees all without judgment, that is ever-present, and yet remains untainted by the limitations of time and space. The Witness card calls us to access that eternal divine viewpoint, to observe our life with love, detachment, and grace. It is through the Witness card that we can become aware of our own inner divinity,  begin to practice non-judgment, and to witness the sacredness of life in all its forms.

In practical terms, The Witness card helps us cultivate a sense of spiritual mindfulness, allowing us to transcend the ego’s constant need for validation or control. It encourages us to trust the divine unfolding of our lives, recognizing that everything—no matter how difficult or joyful—has meaning within the larger tapestry of the divine plan.

Integration of the Transpersonal Dimensions

Source, SoulEssence, and Witness, as the 3 Transpersonal cards in SoulCollage®, invite us to step into the sacred mystery of our divine nature. These cards are not members of any of the 4 SoulCollage® Suits, Committee, Community, Companion, or Council, and they call us to reconnect with the Source of all creation, to align with the unique divine essence within us, and to cultivate a witness-consciousness that observes life through the lens of divine love and understanding.

In engaging with these cards, we are aware that our spiritual journey is one of both inner and outer transformation. It is not simply a path of personal growth but a sacred re-membering—a return to the divine source, a reconnection with our true essence, and a witness to the sacred presence that permeates all existence.
